I had so much fun putting together this Harry Potter Halloween Party. Pumpkin cupcakes with spiced buttercream frosting in the form of owls and cauldron cakes! A warm party drink and some fun Harry Potter prop art projects! I created my own replica of the Weasley's Extendable Ears and the Monster Book of Monsters that doubles as a perfect candy box for halloween.
Harry Potter Party Treats
Cupcake Owls & Cauldron Cakes
Cupcake Owls are a perfect halloween Harry Potter themed treat! An owl is essential in the Wizarding world and perfect for your harry potter party! I got this idea from my mom who saw it in a magazine years ago but it is still a fall go to. Some frosting, almonds, and butterscotch candies make great owl eyes. Cashews add a quick and easy owl beak.
Cauldron Cakes are harry potter on multiple levels. Mentioned in the books and served at Harry Potter Wizarding World not to mention a potions class essential. I filled my cauldrons with the same pumpkin chocolate chips cupcakes I used for my owls but the Carmel syrup swirls are a fun addition. I bought my cauldrons off amazon. I had to check the dimensions to make sure my cupcakes would fit inside 2.5 in opening. They took a little shimmying to get inside but topped with buttercream they still looked and tasted perfect.
Harry Potter Party Drink
Warm Wassil with Cream
Not quite your regular harry potter butter-beer, which I find overly sweet, but a perfectly warm drink with fall spices. Top it with cream to get that great foam on top plus extra creaminess.
Party Props
Extendable Ears & Monster Book of Monsters
Is a Harry Potter themed halloween complete without props? Check out these two fun 3D Harry Potter Art Projects. A replica of the Weasley's own Extendable Ears creation and your very own Monster Book of Monsters that doubles as a perfect candy box for halloween. Get all the details on my art post.
Extendable Ears
Harry Potter art project count me in! Practice your sculpting skills with super easy materials to make your very own extendable ears. Great to teach kids about 3D art with simple materials like air dry clay and twine.
Monster Book of Monsters
The Monster Book of Monsters was a little more involved but totally worth the effort. A wooden book box from Michaels, some fake fur and more of that fun air dry clay makes your very own Monster Book of Monsters. The book adds more of that Harry Potter charm and can double as a Halloween candy box.

Spiced Buttercream Frosting
2 sticks of butter
6 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
4-6 Tbs Whipping Cream
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
¼ teaspoon salt
1. Make sure to use room temperature butter. Put butter in mixer and whip it really good.
2. Add in Vanilla, salt, and spices. Gradually add in powdered sugar until all mixed together. 3. Drizzle in whipping cream. Add in 4 tbs and check the consistency. The frosting will get light and fluffy the more it mixes but you may need to add more whipping cream. Whip the frosting for 5-10 min. If it is not light and fluffy keep whipping.

Frost cupcake with buttercream frosting, using a wet knife to make it nice and smooth. Two caramels with a dot of frosting and chocolate chip for the eyes. The slivered almonds in different arrangements make a variety of cute owl expressions. Cashews for the beak.
